Dodge Lancer |
First used in 1955 to designate both two and four door pillarless hardtop models in the Coronet, Royal and Custom Royal lines. In 1961 Dodge applied the Lancer nameplate to its clone of Chrysler's wildly successful Valiant compact. With full width grilles and round taillights the compact Lancer was stocked with the Slant-6 engine, and for a performance upgrade could be equipped with Chrysler's Hyper Pak parts kit. With sales that didn't meet expectations the Lancer name was discontinued after 1963, and was “Reborn” in 1985, as a mid-sized 5-door hatchback and a clone to the Chrysler LeBaron GTS.
